Initial setup error

Farrell, Jolene
Hi FreeRADIUS,

I am currently a new starter and first timer with building a RADIUS server. My ultimate goal is to set up a RADIUS server for only accounting purposes (storing CDR packets as flat files and then forwarding them to Splunk) but have run into a few problems following simple installation of the freeradius package.

Upon running radiusd in debugging mode (following no changes made to the configuration files) I received the output attached at the bottom of the email (Error #1). I understand that this may have something to do with IPv6 compatibility, so I removed the “listen” sections listening for IPv6 addresses but this occurred in another error (Error #2) and I have struggled to find any documentation relating to this. I have also found little documentation on setting up and testing a FreeRADIUS server for accounting only purposes and was wondering if you could at all point me in the right direction?

Error #1

Error #2

If you only want it to do accounting, delete the "listen" sections that accept other kinds of packets.

Don't post images.  And don't post images which point to files on your local machine.

It's not difficult to cut & paste text.  Please do that.

Please post the full plain text output of "radiusd -X" - images are
generally stripped.

Thanks heaps and sorry about the images. The errors I received in plain text when running radiusd -X were as follows.

First error:
Failed opening auth interface eth0 address :: port 1812 bound to server default: Address family not supported by protocol
/etc/raddb/sites-enabled/default[234]: Error binding to port for :: port 1812

Second error:
Ignoring request to acct address * port 1813 bound to server default from unknown client XXX.XX.XXX.XXX port 41510 proto udp

If "eth0" doesn't have IPv6 enabled, then the server shouldn't listen on IPv6 addresses.  Just delete that "listen" section which uses "::"

Add a client definition to the clients.conf file.  That file contains extensive documentation.
