FreeRadius 3.0.17 and Kerberos 5

Good Day,

I'm trying to connect my FreeRadius server to my Kerberos Server.

As per the documentation, I've followed what was directed here:

Also created a soft link for the krb module from raddb/mods-available
to raddb/mods-enabled. However, the FreeRadius Server doesn't seem to
be contacting the Kerberos server. Is there anything else I need to
setup?

  Yes.  You need to tell the "default" virtual server to use the kerberos module for authentication.

  You can't use MS-CHAP with Kerberos.  It's impossible.

  Kerberos is only compatible with PAP (i.e User-Password) authentication.

  Can you make the client send User-Password?  If not, then you can't use Kerberos.

  If you can use User-Password, then:

* list "krb5" in the "authenticate" section

* add this to the bottom of "authorize", but before "pap"

        if (User-Password && !control:Auth-Type && !control:Proxy-To-Realm) {
                update control {
                        Auth-Type := krb5
                }
        }

  PAP authentication will then work.

Hi Alan,

My freeradius server is able to connect to the kerberos server. I can
obtain a ticket via 'kinit'. However, I can't seem to authenticate
users. I'm getting an error: `krb5: ERROR: Error verifying credentials
(13): Permission denied`
Is there any other setup I need to make? What factors are plausibly
causing the error?

  That error is coming from the Kerberos library or server.  So you'll have to debug that.

  Maybe FreeRADIUS doesn't have permission to read /etc/krb5.keytab ?

On my freeradius server, I am able to retrieve a ticket for the host
though. Confirmed with via 'kinit' and 'klist', so read permission to
/etc/krb5.keytab is not the case here.
No errors on my kerberos logs either.

My bad, I didn't know radius service is running under the user 'radiusd'.
I had to give that user read access to the host's keytab file.

Kerberos recommends to only give read/write access to to root though,
so I'm not entirely sure if there is any security issues with what I
did.

  It's better to use group permissions.  But whatever works.
